Elements & Principles of Design


Unity- Unity is the most important aspect of well-designed are. It makes art feel complete an finished. This is a photo of Seattle, WA from a ferry.The building colors contrast with the sky and the water to show variety as well.

 
 Texture- Texture appeals the sense of touch. It refers to surface quality. It can be a simulated texture which makes it look real or it can be an actual texture. This photo is a picture of a beach in Puerto Vallarta. It shows the different colors and textures of the sand with the footprints.

 Balance- Balance distributes visual weight. It can be symmetrical to where you can fold it in half and it will still be equal on both sides. Or it can be asymmetrical which is where if you fold it in half it will not be equal on both sides. Balance can also be radial. This is a photo of the Space needle in Seattle, WA.


 Movement- Movement directs the viewer through works of are. It also directs the eye along the edges, line, and shapes. Leads to the focal area. This is a photo of water coming out of a sprinkler to show the movement of the water.
