Dot Day

In this project, we looked at the video "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds which told the story of a little girl who believed that she could not draw. The teacher encouraged her to be confident in here work and what she was good at. The little girl believed she was good at drawing dots. She drew the dots in many shapes, sizes, and colors. After looking at the video, us as a class were given multiple different types of media to create our own dots out of coffee filters. For the first dot, we were required to use at least one color of each media to see how they all worked together. For the second dot, we were able to use any type of media we wanted.I enjoyed that this lesson followed a video in this case; it is also a book. This gave us a background of the lesson. I was fond of this lesson because it gave me confidence in my art. I am not a very artistic person nor am I very good at art. This lesson allowed me to be on my own.

For an extension activity I would use it as a reading and art activity. I would have the students first read the story. Then I would have them create their own dot. I would use the coffee filters in this activity as well because it shows the best representation. For their dots, I would have them make one with primary colors and then the other with the secondary colors. In the middle of the dots, I would have the students write the first two words that come into their head when they think of the story "The Dot" .
